The Woodland Sage (Salvia nemorosa) is a highly popular, sun-loving, and drought-tolerant perennial. With its long blooming period, violet-blue flowers, and aromatic scent, it decorates the garden and attracts pollinators.
Woodland Sage (Salvia nemorosa) is one of the most popular and rewarding herbaceous perennials, typically growing 30–70 cm tall. From late May to July, it produces upright stems of violet-blue or purplish-blue (rarely pink or white) flowers above slightly wrinkled, aromatic leaves. It is strictly a sun-loving and heat-tolerant plant. Its biggest advantage is that if cut back after the first flush of flowers, it will delight us with a second bloom in August and September. It prefers loose, well-draining, neutral or slightly alkaline soil and cannot tolerate wet, heavy ground. Once established, it is highly drought-tolerant. It is completely winter hardy and survives severe frosts without extra protection. As a fantastic nectar source, it acts as a magnet for bees, bumblebees, and butterflies, making it a perfect choice for pollinator-friendly gardens or as a companion plant for roses and lavender.
Requires well-draining soil. Needs regular watering in its first year; becomes drought-tolerant once established. Cut back after the first bloom to encourage a second flush. Fully winter hardy.
