Product Description

The Agave is a highly spectacular succulent native to the Americas, forming a massive, geometric rosette from its thick, fleshy leaves. The leaf margins are often lined with teeth, and the tips end in a sharp, sturdy spine, giving it a true exotic, desert character. It is a true sun-lover, thriving best in full, blazing sunlight. Its soil requirements are minimal, but excellent drainage is crucial; loose, sandy, or gravelly cactus soil is ideal. It is exceptionally drought-tolerant; allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings, and strictly avoid overwatering and waterlogging. While some varieties are more frost-hardy, in colder climates like Hungary, it is safest to grow it in a pot and overwinter it in a bright, dry, and cool (5–10 °C) location with minimal watering. It grows slowly and blooms only once in its lifetime, after which the main plant dies, leaving behind offsets. Warning: Its sap can cause skin irritation and is toxic if ingested. Its sharp spines also pose a physical hazard, so keep it away from dogs and cats.

Plant Care

Requires loose, sandy, well-draining soil. Highly drought-tolerant; water infrequently. Overwinter in a bright, cool (5–10 °C) place, keeping it almost completely dry.
