Product Description

The Currant (Ribes) is one of the most popular and traditional garden berry shrubs, available in red, black, or white fruiting varieties. It is a deciduous plant growing to about 1–1.5 meters tall, blooming in early spring and ripening its fruits in the first half of summer. For an abundant harvest, it requires a sunny (or lightly shaded) location and nutrient-rich, well-draining, slightly moist soil. Regular watering is especially important during flowering and fruit development. It is available in both bush and standard (tree-like) forms. The most important care step is early spring pruning, where old (4-5 year old) branches are removed to rejuvenate the shrub and ensure rich yields. It is fully winter hardy and boasts excellent frost tolerance in colder climates. The currant bush is non-toxic and safe for dogs and cats.
