Product Description

The Sago Palm (Cycas revoluta), despite its appearance, is not a true palm but a "living fossil," an ancient gymnosperm. The specialty of the "multi" version is that it features multiple trunks (or a multi-branched base) in a single pot, creating a much bushier, denser, and more spectacular crown of fronds compared to the classic single-trunk version. It requires plenty of sunlight (though it should be acclimated to harsh summer sun) and loose, well-draining soil. It is highly drought-tolerant; allow the soil to dry out almost completely between waterings, as waterlogging quickly causes root rot. It grows slowly, usually producing only one new flush of leaves per year. It is not frost-hardy, requiring overwintering in a bright, frost-free (5–12 °C) indoor location. Warning: All parts of the plant (especially the seeds and leaves) contain cycasin, which is fatally toxic to dogs and cats, causing severe liver failure.

Plant Care

Requires loose, sandy, well-draining soil. Water only when the soil has dried out. Frost-sensitive; overwinter in a bright, cool indoor spot. No pruning needed, just remove dead lower leaves.
