The Ivy Geranium (Pelargonium peltatum) is one of the most popular balcony plants. With its long, trailing stems and abundant blooms from spring to autumn, it is a dazzling addition to window boxes and hanging baskets.
Select SizePelargonium peltatum (Ivy Geranium) is a highly spectacular trailing ornamental plant, with cascading stems that can reach 50–150 cm in length. Thanks to its glossy, ivy-like leaves and continuous blooming from May until the first autumn frosts (in shades of red, pink, white, purple, or bi-color), it is a favorite for terraces and balconies. For abundant flowering, it requires a sunny spot (5-6 hours of direct sunlight daily) and regular fertilizing. It prefers consistent watering, but waterlogging and overwatering must be avoided; allow the topsoil to dry slightly between waterings. Removing spent flowers encourages continuous blooming. Although often treated as a seasonal plant, it can be successfully overwintered indoors in a bright, cool (5–10 °C) location with minimal watering. Please note that pelargonium species are toxic to cats and dogs.
Requires loose, well-draining soil and consistent watering; avoid waterlogging. Fertilize weekly and deadhead spent flowers. Not frost-tolerant; overwinter in a cool, bright place.
