The Sago Palm (Cycas revoluta) is an ancient, exotic-looking ornamental plant often referred to as a living fossil. It grows very slowly and features stunning, rigid dark green leaves, but please note that the plant is highly toxic!
Despite its common name, the Sago Palm (Cycas revoluta) is not a true palm but an ancient gymnosperm that has existed since the time of the dinosaurs. Its appearance is highly symmetrical and exotic, featuring a slowly thickening trunk topped with a rosette of stiff, glossy dark green leaves. It is an extremely slow grower, often producing only one set of leaves per year. It requires a bright, sunny spot and well-draining soil. Its biggest enemy is overwatering, so allow the top layer of soil to dry out between waterings. It is sensitive to frost, so in colder climates, it must be overwintered indoors in a cool, bright, and frost-free location. Warning: All parts of the plant, especially the seeds, are highly toxic and can cause severe symptoms if ingested, posing a significant danger to dogs and cats!
Requires well-draining soil (e.g., cactus mix); waterlogging must be avoided. Allow the topsoil to dry out between waterings. Requires frost-free overwintering in colder climates.
